The archives are open to all members of the SVA community, including administrators, faculty, students, and alumni, as well as outside researchers. Advance appointments are required to visit in person.
Institutional records of SVA will normally remain closed for a period of 20 years from the date of their creation (the date on which each document was written). The opening date for files spanning several years will be 20 years from the most recent date. Access will be given to material already 20 years old contained within a collection that is not yet open when such material can be isolated from the rest of the collection. College records that are closed for longer periods are as follows:
- Board of Trustees minutes and records (including minutes and records of Board committees): 35 years.
- Unpublished minutes and unpublished financial reports: 20 years.
The Archives does not collect confidential employee or student records.
Duplication and reproduction
Photocopying and reproductions can be arranged for most materials. The staff reserves the right to withhold permission to photocopy for the protection of fragile or restricted items.
